Radio 1’s Greg James is hit in the HEAD by a bus in shocking accident before ‘being told to shut up by the driver’

Greg James has shockingly revealed that he was hit in the head by a bus in a sudden accident.

The Radio 1 DJ, 37, has recalled the moment a driver pulled into a bus stop so quickly that the vehicle collided with his head as he stood on the pavement.

Greg claimed he was told to ‘shut up’ by the driver after he said he had been hit as he spoke about the incident on the How To Fail With Elizabeth Day podcast.

Recalling the incident, he explained: ‘I got really cross at a bus driver once. I was waiting for a bus because I’m incredibly down to earth and take the bus.

‘He swooped in so quickly he hit my head. He actually hit my head.

‘I was on the pavement and I went “mate, you just hit me in the head with your bus”. He went “oh shut up”.

‘I said “what do you mean shut up? You hit me with your bus, look how big your bus is”. I do get riled at transport.’

Elsewhere on the podcast, Greg went on to candidly speak about having moments of ‘self-doubt’ when he is ‘tired and stressed’.

He continued: ‘Transport problems aside, the darkness comes when I’m tired, stressed and over-worked. I have really horrible moments of crippling self-doubt sometimes.

‘But I think they’re normal and it’s good to talk about these things. There are times where I feel I can’t do it.

‘I wake up and think “how am I going to do this show today? Am I any good? I’ve been doing it for ages, maybe I should be doing something else”.’

His latest comments come after Greg revealed he and his wife Bella Mackie have no plans to have children any time soon.

The presenter admitted they are very much at the ‘no kids’ stage at the moment, but insisted they ‘have a nice life’.

The couple got engaged in June 2018 after Bella popped the question, and tied the knot in September that year.

Enraged: Greg claimed he was told to ‘shut up’ by the driver after he said he had been hit as he spoke about the incident on a podcast

Two years later, in May 2020, Bella revealed she suffered a miscarriage which caused her mental health to ‘plummet’.

Bella suffers from anxiety and OCD and writes openly about her condition and her struggles.

Speaking about the topic of children, Greg told Men’s Health UK: ‘We’re just monitoring it.

‘But basically we’re both on ‘no’ to kids at the moment…It’s where we are at the moment.

‘We’re having a nice time. I’m 37 and Bella is 39. Plenty of time…We have a nice life.

‘Bella is enjoying her success as a writer and we can take a view later. Ask ourselves: what does our life look like in 10, 15, 20 years? We’re fine without it.’

Opening up about her miscarriage in 2020, Bella wrote in The Times: ‘It was a surprise and only lasted for about three weeks; it could barely be called a miscarriage.

‘But even in that brief window my mental health plummeted dramatically.

Romance: The couple got engaged in June 2018 after Bella popped the question, and tied the knot in September that year

‘I started having constant intrusive thoughts, my OCD roared back and I couldn’t stop crying. The intensity and speed of my deterioration shocked me. And my poor husband.’

When the initial trauma of the miscarriage had passed, Bella admitted the idea of trying for another baby was no longer warm or fuzzy, but terrifying.

She wrote: ‘The baby thought remains vague. I am still terrified of the possibility that I might slide back down the treacherous slope and end up losing my independence, or being resentful about what I’ve lost.’

Bella added that at the time she was mulling over trying for a baby again and what positive safeguards she could put it in place if she and Greg did decide to try for another.
