She captured all our hearts when she won Big Brother back in 2010 because of her friendly nature and bubbly personality. And more than a decade later, Josie Gibson has remained just as popular in her successful career as a presenter – her fun links for This Morning always make audiences smile.
But as new caught up with the star, she admits that she does find it a struggle to balance her busy work schedule with life as a single mum to son Reggie, two, after splitting from partner Terry just four months after giving birth.
“I rarely get a chance to get any me-time,” she admits.
Josie, 36, has also been refreshingly honest about her battle with weight, revealing she’s now a size 14, thanks to her WW diet plan, after going up to a size 18 to 20 during the first lockdown.
Here, she chats about dieting, being a mum and why she’s not concerned about having another child.
Hi Josie, how have you been coping during the pandemic?
It’s just been mental – it’s been hard on everybody.
You look great, tell us about your weight loss journey…
I haven’t been as militant as I normally would be, but I’ve been enjoying life and I’ve got my little boy, so I can’t be. I started at a size 18 to 20 in lockdown and I now fluctuate between 14 to 16. I’d like to get to a size 12 to 14. But I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself because I’ve got so much other stuff going on right now.
What made you want to lose the weight?
I’ve got the ability to go really big, so I needed to start being accountable and put my health at the forefront. I got so depressed in the first lockdown. I piled on the weight because I think I was scared and I just ate food as a comfort. That’s why I joined WW. I needed to get a grip on it and stop the bad habits that were coming into my life.
How did the weight gain affect your everyday life?
I couldn’t keep up with Reggie – it was embarrassing. I remember running through Bath trying to catch him, so I did it to make me a better mum. I can catch him now and I feel more healthy, I’ve got more energy. My skin, outlook and brain is better, too. I can do more active things with Reggie now. We run round the park, we have bought a stand-up paddleboard and we’ve been going on camping trips. We still have our naughty treats, though. We have just been to Cornwall, so we had our cream teas!
What sort of things do you eat now?
It’s different every day. I have good and bad days. On a good day, I’ll have poached eggs with spinach on toast because I’ve got some chickens now. Then I’ll have something a bit carby for lunch, and at teatime I’ll try to stay away from the carbs. There are loads of WW recipes online. My portions are probably a bit too big, but it’s all good food.

How is Reggie doing?
He’s talking now and really funny. He’s very hyper, so you do need a lot of energy!
How did you find being a single mum in lockdown?
It was hard in the first part, as I was on my own with him and it was really lonely. You even miss going to soft play. It’s been so hard for all the kids, they’ve really missed out. Now, I’ve got my little support bubbles around me, good friends and family.
How are things with Reggie’s dad Terry now?
He’s a brilliant dad and so supportive. With my job and everything, he’s been a diamond. I couldn’t have done it without him.
Have you thought about having another baby?
No. Reggie needs a lot of my attention, so I’ve got to concentrate on him before I ever think about doing it again. I’m happy with just the one. I’m not ready to go through it again. I’ve got to do it right the first time!
You’re filming a lot for This Morning, are you enjoying it?
It’s an absolute dream! It’s like an extended family. They are so good when it comes to Reg and everything like that.
You seem to get on really well with Alison Hammond…
Al and I were pals before I got the job on This Morning, we’ve always been good friends. The thing with Al is she’s one of those people who would give anyone her last pound. She’s so kind-hearted.
How do you manage to juggle it all?
I’ve got a good support network. I’ve learnt that I’ve got to take on a bit of help too, so I’ve taken on a virtual PA – it’s the best thing I’ve ever done. I rarely get a chance to get me-time. If I have got any free time, I like to do a workout.
Do you have any big plans for the summer?
It’s hard to make any sort of plans at the moment, but I’ve really liked discovering the UK. We live in one of the most beautiful countries in the world, we’re so lucky.
