India’s Nishad Kumar won the silver medal in the men’s high jump T46 event at the Tokyo Paralympics on Sunday.
Nishad registered a best jump of 2.06m to finish in second place, setting an Asian record in the process. American Roderick Townsend clinched gold with 2.15m, while his compatriot Dallas Wise also won the silver after he cleared the same height as Nishad of 2.06m.
India’s Rampal Chahar finished fifth with a best jump of 1.94m.
This is India’s second medal at the Tokyo Paralympics.
Earlier on Sunday, Bhavinaben Patel became only the second Indian woman to win a medal at the Paralympics after she claimed a historic silver following a 0-3 loss to world number one Chinese paddler Ying Zhou in the women’s singles table tennis class 4 final.
