Parliament Live Updates: Yesterday, Congress leader and former finance minister, P Chidambaram told the Rajya Sabha that the government has failed to stimulate demand for growth in the country.

Parliament Live Updates: On the last day of the first leg of Parliament’s Budget Session 2021, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharamam will reply to the house on Friday. The next Parliament session for this year’s Budget will reconvene on March 8.

Speaking during the general discussion on the Union Budget in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi Thursday attacked the centre over the three farm laws and alleged that they would damage India’s food security system. His speech evoked uproar from BJP MPs who demanded he should stick to speaking on the Union Budget.

Congress leader and former finance minister, P Chidambaram told the Rajya Sabha on Thursday that the government has failed to stimulate demand for growth in the country and the GDP will go back to three years old figures because of “incompetent economic mismanagement”. He claimed that the budget for 2021-22 has failed as even a small amount of cash transfer has not been given to the poor and the rations are not being continued with. “This is a budget for the rich, of the rich, by the rich.”

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Thursday addressed Rajya Sabha on the ground situation in Eastern Ladakh. “Our sustained talks with China have led to agreement on disengagement on the north and south banks of Pangong Lake. After this agreement, India-China will remove forward deployments in a phased, coordinated manner,” Singh said, adding that India is committed to maintaining bilateral ties and peace along the LAC.

Singh’ statement comes a day after Indian and Chinese troops along the border in Ladakh initiated the process of disengagement.

Speaking during the Budget Session in Rajya Sabha today, Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that MNERGA has granted job oppportunities to approx 9 crore beneficiaries and this year record work done through NREGA. Singh added that the Central Government has continously increased budget allocated for the scheme.

Anurag Thakur from the Ministry of Finance, will release and present the Supplementary Demands for Grants for the year 2021-2022 in the parliament today.

Dr Harsh Vardhan moved a motion to elect a member of parliament to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Madurai, Tamil Nadu and Jodhpur in the vacancy caused due to a member of Rajya Sabha who held this position.

Union ministers Smriti Irani and Anurag Thakur to hit back at Gandhi and the Congress party. Making an intervention, Irani accused the former Congress president of spreading lies and describing three farm legislations passed by Parliament as black laws .Irani who defeated Rahul in Amethi in the Lok Sabha polls, said that she did not expect Gandhi to support a budget which intended to promote the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat’ drive and unite the country.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said action will be taken against social media companies if they are misused. “We have flagged Twitter, and is in dialogue with them. Why is it that when police has to act in U.S. Capitol Hill they stand in support, but when a similar action is taken at Red Fort, they oppose it? Freedom of speech is there, but with reasonable restrictions. Why double standards?” he said.
