The legendary Brazilian football player Pele who rose from barefoot poverty to become one of the greatest and best known athletes in modern history, passed away. He was 82.
Sao Paulo’s Albert Einstein hospital, where the football player Pele was undergoing treatment, said he died at 3:27 pm on Thursday. As per the hospital report, he passed away due to multiple organ failures resulting from progression of colon cancer associated with his previous medical condition.
His original name was Edson Arantes do Nascimento. Pele was remembered for his wide ranging accomplishments, both on and off the football field. He was regarded as one of football’s greatest players.
He previously underwent surgery in the month of November 2012, having a hip replacement at a time when he was struggling to cope with the life on road.
The statement from football player Pele’s official Instagram page revealed : “ The Inspiration and the love marked journey of King Pele, who peacefully died today. On his journey, Edson enchanted world with his genius in the sport, stopped a war, carried out social works all over the world and spread what he most believed to be cure for all our problems: love. Pele’ message becomes a legacy for the future generations. Love, love and love, forever.”
Brazil’s government declared three days of mourning.
