Double-murder rocks Mysuru

Youth absconds after killing his father and a woman at Dadadahalli

A 56-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman were allegedly hacked to death by the man’s son in the latter’s house in Dadadahalli in Srinagar on the outskirts of Mysuru on Thursday night.

Police said the accused Sagar, who is in his late twenties, stormed into the house of Latha, 48, in Dadadahalli and unleashed a murderous assault on his father Shivaprakash, 56, and Latha with a machete. Latha’s son Nagarjuna, who was also assaulted when he tried to save his mother, has been admitted to a hospital with injuries on his hand.

Sagar is absconding and the Mysuru South police, which has registered a FIR based on Nagarjuna’s complaint, has constituted two special teams to track down the accused.

Police said Shivaprakash and Latha’s husband Nagaraj had been long-time friends. Even after Nagaraj had died a couple of years ago, the friendship between the two families had continued.

While both her daughters were married off, Latha was staying with her son Nagarjuna. The incident took place when Shivaprakash, who stays with his family at K.G. Koppal in Mysuru, came to Latha’s house on Thursday evening.

The reason for the attack is still under investigation. “We are investigating if it was financial or otherwise”, said a senior police official.

The incident has sent shockwaves in the quiet neighbourhood, which witnessed a flurry of police activity since Thursday night. The police, who rushed to the spot, shifted the bodies to the mortuary.

Superintendent of Mysuru district police R. Chethan and Additional Superintendent of Police Shivakumar R. visited the spot.
