Stacey Solomon, 31, has been sparked debate among a number of fans for her take on the Royal Family after a clip of her from 2018 went viral. This features Stacey speaking on Loose Women about how she “doesn’t get the point” of the Royal Family.
At the time, she appeared alongside panellists Christine Lampard, Linda Robson and Jane Moore.
The group were discussing how Meghan Markle could modernise the monarchy when the topic came up.
She said: “I don’t get why we’re so obsessed with these humans that are exactly the same.
“It could be us four sitting there I just don’t get it.”
At this point, Jane pointed out how they are “becoming like celebrities,” but “the Queen is brilliant”.
Stacey countered: “To me that’s all they are, they’re celebrities.”
Linda then waded in adding: “I love the Queen, and she’s always worked really hard.”
But Stacey continued: “But I would work hard if the whole country paid for me to have like 12 houses.”
Jane quickly corrected her on this point, explaining how much UK citizens actually contribute.
She said: “They don’t pay for all of the houses. We contribute about £39 million a year. It costs £300 million a year to run the royal family.
“But I’m with you. After the Queen I’d have them all on bicycles and living in a terraced house.
“But I love the Queen, I think she’s fantastic.”
However, Stacey then added: “It’s freezing cold outside and people are homeless and these people have houses to spare.
“And it does sometimes become a little bit frustrating because I don’t see the purpose of all of that money going to this entire family.
“Sorry, sorry to everyone!”
The moment has now gone viral on Twitter after being shared again on the social media app TikTok.
Many viewers who have discovered it for the first time have praised the star for her words.
One wrote: “I didn’t think it was possible to love Stacey Solomon any more than I did, but I was wrong!”
Another penned: “Stacey Solomon is one of my all time favourite people.”
“I stand with Stacey Solomon! Go on there sister! Make your voice heard,” a third added.
Stacey’s words were also praised by another user, who wrote: “Every day I fall a lil more in love with Stacey Solomon (sic).
“The way she speaks up about how unnecessary the royal family are is incredibly brave! Plus she’s absolutely right.”
A fifth penned: “Although Stacey Solomon sharing her opinion about The Royal Family on Loose Women was actually a few years ago, how can anybody argue with what she said?”
However, not everyone agreed with the former The X Factor star.
In response to the video, one wrote: “Hundreds of years of tradition, and you have Stacey Solomon on ‘Loose Women’ slagging it off.
“This country never fails to amaze me.”
Another added in defence: “Monarchies such as the UK attract many tourists.”
A third tweeted: “Once again we get a c-list celeb spouting her opinion (she’s entitled to it), without doing enough background on it.
“The Royal Family earn more for this country every year than she ever will.”
