'RHOA' Alum Kim Zolciak-Biermann Remembers Horrible Day She Got a Stroke and Still Danced on 'DWTS'

Kim Zolciak-Biermann is best remembered for being one of the peaches on The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Thanks to the success of the Bravo reality series, the television personality was able to land other opportunities in show business. Zolciak-Biermann was a contestant on Dancing with the Stars Season 21 back in 2015. However, only a few weeks into the show she was forced to withdraw after suffering a stroke.

Six years since the stroke

Zolciak-Biermann opened up on Instagram with all her followers about the time she suffered a stroke and didn’t know it. The former RHOA star was one of the contestants on DWTS back in 2015 when the incident occurred — something the entrepreneur says she’ll never forget.

“6 yrs ago today I had a stroke, I’ll never forget how I felt, I think about it almost daily still to this day,” she posted on Instagram. “I take blood thinner daily & probably always will! I have no physical limitations but at times I can’t find the ‘right’ word, or I completely lose my train of thought. Thank God my hubby finishes my sentences.”

As a warning to her fans, Zolciak-Biermann recalled that there were “a couple signs prior” to her having a stroke that she didn’t pay attention to at the time. She recalled that when she landed in L.A. to appear on the dancing competition, she had a severe migraine. Zolciak-Biermann didn’t give it too much thought because she says she had “suffered from migraines regularly.”

The star popped pain killers to levy the headache and went on to rehearsals but the driver got lost on the way to the studio. Zolciak-Biermann said her headache got even worse but she believed it was car sickness from driving around. Finally arriving at the studio, the actor said that her headache was still troublesome and once again took more painkillers.

Kim Zolciak-Biermann calls for help

The reality show contestant said that she went on to perform her dance numbers and did well on DWTS. After her performances on the ABC reality show, she flew back to Atlanta on a red-eye flight to return to her family. When she got home, that’s when the scary part happened.

“I pulled in the driveway opened the car door & bent down to hug KJ when it happened…..my fingers went numb,” she explained. “I thought to myself, ‘OMG Kim get over to the car and hold on to something.’ Felt like I was going to collapse & there was no way I was going to do that in front of my kids.”

Zolciak-Biermann said she thought of saying she needed help but couldn’t speak. Her husband was called who suggested taking her to the hospital.

“I was admitted [to the hospital] for a few days. They also found a hole in my heart,” she revealed. “I loved doing DWTS, one of the best decisions I have ever made thank you @lisarinna for convincing me to do it.”

Zolciak-Biermann would go on to withdraw from the competition on September 28, 2015.
