Piers Morgan took a swipe at Eric Clapton today, after the musician said he’d developed “severe reactions” from the Covid vaccine, which left him feeling worried that he would never be able to perform again. The former Good Morning Britain presenter said if the rocker was successful in persuading people not to have the jab, then his fears would be realised and live music would “never return”.

“Yesterday, rock legend Eric Clapton did his best to dissuade people from having the jab after claiming the side effects he suffered made him fear he would never perform again,” the 56-year-old wrote.

He went on to point out that earlier in the year, the guitarist spoke about his desire for live music shows to return.

He previously joined forces with Van Morrison to record anti-lockdown track Stand and Deliver, which helped those in financial crises amid the pandemic.

“The 76-year-old guitarist doesn’t seem to realise that if everyone heeded his advice to avoid vaccination, then live music would never return and a lot of people his age would get the virus and die,” Piers continued in his Daily Mail column.

However, Piers went on to insist that Clapton shouldn’t be “howled” at for his “ignorant” remarks, but blame should instead be pointed at Prime Minister Boris Johnson amid concerns about the Indian variant of the virus affecting people in the UK.

He added: “And it’s not the likes of Eric Clapton we should be howling at today for their ignorant vaccine comments.

“No, the blame for this latest mess should be laid squarely at the door of No10 Downing Street, and Boris Johnson who has yet again allowed us to be held ransom by a virus that likes nothing more than to punish spineless ditherers who refuse to move fast or tough enough to suppress it.”

Earlier in the week, it was reported that Eric had suffered a “disastrous reaction” to the AstraZeneca Covid vaccine.

He said the symptoms lasted 10 days after he’d been given the first dose back in February.

Eric said he regretted having the jab and queried the safety of it.

The musician slammed the vaccine in a message to his music producer, according to the Daily Mail online.

After recovering from the first reaction, he was then given the second dose six weeks later.

He said his hands and feet were “frozen, numb or burning” leaving the guitarist fearful that he would be unable to play music again.

He said: “I took the first jab of AZ [AstraZeneca] and straight away had severe reactions which lasted ten days.

“My hands and feet were either frozen, numb or burning, and pretty much useless for two weeks, I feared I would never play again.

“I should never have gone near the needle.

“But the propaganda said the vaccine was safe for everyone.”

Despite his comments, the roll-out of the Covid vaccinations has been very successful.

Just last week, people aged 38 or over were invited to get the jab.

Meanwhile, Piers took to Twitter to complain about the people who were refusing to get vaccinated, while complaining about lockdowns.

He branded them “selfish p***ks”.

“People who refuse to get jabbed but whine about lockdowns really are a special breed of stupid selfish p***ks,” he tweeted in view of his 7.9 million followers.

Sharing a similar sentiment, Andrew Lloyd Webber also branded anti-vaxxers “selfish” during a radio interview this week.
