Phillip Schofield issues apology as This Morning host attempts to fix ‘unbearable’ issue

This Morning: Holly and Phil apologise for sound issues on show

This Morning presenters Phillip Schofield, 58, and Holly Willoughby, 39, attempted to resolve an issue on the ITV daytime show, after being plagued with sound issues. It didn’t take long for viewers to flock to social media to complain the error was “hurting their ears”.

The incident appeared to take place when both hosts interviewed a guest over a video call, but viewers at home were hit with an “unbearable” cackle sound.

Social media users took to Twitter to complain and requested that the show sort out the cause.

When the presenting duo became aware of the technical glitch, they attempted to fix the issue, as Holly admitted to “putting cables together” during an advertisement break.

Phillip quizzed: “Are you having sound problems with our show, today? Apparently, people are having issues with the sound. We apologise for that.

“It is ok leaving the pair of us, so somewhere down the line there is an issue but we’re looking into it.”

They soon confirmed that during the break the team were trying to figure out what was going wrong.

Holly interjected: “During the break, we were putting cables together. We couldn’t find it.”

Phillip then jumped out of his chair and patted his back to ensure his microphone was still intact.

He later provided an update, claiming it could be a faulty embedder that the technical team were trying to fix, and that should solve any issues.

Fans flocked to Twitter and shared their problems with the sound.

One wrote: “Sorry, need to turn this off, my ears are hurting! Please let me know when the sound is sorted. Thanks, folks.”

Another penned: “Sort out your sound !! It’s terrible. I’m going to have to turn over if it’s not sorted!! Major techy problems on your end today! Go to a break, re Mic everyone, and sort the issue!”(sic)

“#ThisMorning had to turn over. Dreadful sound,” a third added.

Another wrote: “Sound issue on video calls is unbearable having to turn the volume completely down! Maybe don’t run the call segments.”

The issue didn’t appear to impact all viewers as others confirmed their sound was fine.

Meanwhile, Holly addressed a “bittersweet” moment as the This Morning host is set to mark a new milestone.

The mum-of-three has been left heartbroken over the need to cancel her planned 40th birthday party this week, due to lockdown.

She made the admission during a show segment “on how to celebrate your birthday in lockdown”.

“It’s bittersweet as next week I’m celebrating my big 4-0 and tomorrow night would have been my big birthday party that I had to cancel,” Holly said.

“So it will look very different. But as long as I’ve got a cake and a glass in my hand I’ll be fine.”

Holly’s co-host Phillip was quick to comfort her by offering her a party food snack, saying: “Here have a Wotsit, Holly. It’ll be fine.”
