Man arrested after This Morning’s Alison Hammond was ‘targeted by blackmailer’

A man has been arrested on suspicion of blackmail following an investigation by West Midlands Police into the alleged blackmail of This Morning presenter Alison Hammond.

Alison reportedly shared her story with the West Midlands Police force, as reported by The Sun, and revealed she had been forced to endure the harrowing experience for eight months.

Although the man cannot be identified for legal reasons, it's claimed Alison revealed he had threatened to "ruin" her career after she believed him to be her friend.

It’s claimed that the 48 year old presenter handed over thousands of pounds to the man, and even offered to pay for him to attend rehab treatment for his battle with drugs.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police confirmed that an investigation had been carried out, and that a man had been arrested on suspicion of blackmailing Alison.

"A 36-year-old man has been arrested from an address in Warwickshire this evening on suspicion of blackmail against a woman in her 40s. He remains in custody for questioning," they said.

Meanwhile, TV favourite Alison has continued to present her segment on This Morning.

Alison was also recently announced as the new co-host of The Great British Bake Off alongside comedian Noel Fielding, replacing Matt Lucas who announced he was leaving the show last month.

Sharing the news on social media, the baking competition's official Instagram page quipped that they had "baking news".

"We’re delighted to announce that Alison Hammond will be joining forces with Noel Fielding to host the next series of The Great British Bake Off on @Channel4 later this year," the post read, alongside a snap of This Morning favourite, Alison.

"We cannot wait!" they added.

The announcement was met with praise from longtime fans of both the show and Alison, with Stacey Solomon commenting saying: "This is amazing", whilst former fan-favourite contestant Lottie Bedlow commented: "Solid choice. I cannot wait!! "

Alison's first series as GBBO host will air later in the year.
