King Charles shared a touching message for people celebrating Mother’s Day without their mums following the death of his own, Queen Elizabeth, last year.
The day is undoubtedly hard for those who have lost their mothers, with former This Morning host Eamonn Holmes sharing a heartfelt tribute to mark the occasion on Saturday.
This is the first Mother's Day since the death of the Queen last year, and the official Royal Family Instagram page shared a touching tribute to her and the mother of Queen Consort Camilla, Rosalind Shand.
Addressing their 12.9 million followers, the Royal Family shared a picture of a baby Charles on his mother’s lap alongside a similar picture that showed Camilla and Rosalind.
The caption read: “To all mothers everywhere, and to those who may be missing their mums today, we are thinking of you and wishing you a special #MothersDay.”
The images, which have been liked more than 280,000 times, sparked comments from royal fans who opened up about their own experiences with loss.
“This is the essence of a true and regal Queen. I miss her,” one person wrote.
“Her late majesty Queen Elizabeth lives and will always live in our hearts!” another wrote, while a third added: “Thank you for sharing these wonderful pictures, the first Mothers Day without your mum is so difficult, no matter how old you are. Thinking of you both.”
Other fans were shocked that they did not include a picture of Princess Diana, given that she is the mother of the future King and someone beloved by the British public.
One person wrote: “Did you forget about the mother of your sons?”
“No picture of Harry and William with their mum?” another said, while a third added: “King Charles forgetting his late baby mamma?”
2023 is shaping up to be another interesting year for the Royals, who will gather for Charles's Coronation in London on 6 May.
Meanwhile, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been embroiled in tension over the ownership of Frogmore Cottage, which Harry was given by the Queen as a wedding present in 2018.
It was initially reported that Prince Andrew would be taking the cottage, though Princess Eugenie is now moving in instead.
Royal expert Jennie Bond exclusively told OK! that Prince William was happy and part of the decision.
She explained: “They will be absolutely supportive of Charles’ decision. They probably don’t want Harry and Meghan as their near neighbours.
“I think they’d probably have Andrew. They’ll be completely on board with this and support Charles.
"Charles has probably spoken to William about this, but I think they talk about these things a lot.”
