Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez's Friends Say They Saw the Split Coming

After news broke that Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez had reportedly broken up and called off their engagement, friends have come forward, saying that they saw the split coming. Sources told People that the COVID-19 lockdown played a role — and that when the two of them decided not to buy a mansion together, everyone around them knew that things weren't going to last.

The source also added that they had tried to make things work for their respective children. Lopez shares twins Max David and Emme Maribel with her ex, Marc Anthony. Rodriguez shares two daughters, Ella and Natasha, with his ex-wife, Cynthia Scurtis. All of the kids have featured in both Lopez and Rodriguez's social media feeds.

"They have been on the rocks for almost three months now. They've been trying to keep it together for the kids but everyone knew it wasn't going to work," a source said. "They were going to buy a mega-mansion together and then that didn't happen, once they backed out of the deal all their friends down here [in Miami] knew."

In an interview with Allure, Lopez mentioned that she and Rodriguez had gone to couples therapy together. A second source told People that the two tried their best to stay together and that it wasn't a sudden decision.

"They started having problems during the lockdown," the second source said. "They did therapy together. They really worked on their relationship."

When the news first broke that the two had separated, People reported that while things have ended romantically, Lopez and Rodriguez are still connected through various business ventures and real estate deals. They both partnered with Fitplan, a personal training app, and self-care company Hims & Hers, so there's no telling how their separation will effect those companies.

"This has been a long time coming," another source explained. "They are tied in their business worlds so it's not a cut and dry breakup. It's taken a while for them to even think about untangling it all."
