Katie Piper, 37, has shared how she did “not know” her former Strictly Come Dancing partner Gorka Marquez, 30, had proposed to his girlfriend Gemma Atkinson. The TV presenter and activist appeared alongside the Spanish professional dancer in the BBC dance contest back in 2018.

That’s really good news

Speaking on whether she is still in contact with Gorka, Katie told Express.co.uk: “We’re still in touch, and I also knew Gemma, his girlfriend, before I knew him, we have got a mutual friend.”

She continued: “So when I danced with him, he didn’t have a child, then he’s become a dad.

“I kind of stayed up to date on Instagram with their little baby Mia. It’s really nice to see them become parents.”

However, when asked if she would be hoping to attend his upcoming nuptials to Gemma, the TV presenter replied: “Oh, do you know what, I didn’t even know that. That’s really good news. Big congratulations to them.”

Gorka proposed to Gemma on Valentines Day this year, after the pair met on Strictly four years ago. The couple are also parents to Mia, two.

Previously, Katie has revealed that back when the two danced together three years ago, a major mishap occurred.

The 37-year-old explained on her podcast Katie Piper’s Extraordinary People how she once felt Gorka’s “genitals” brush against her leg.

Katie spoke on how she loved to dance but struggled to relax while appearing on the show.

She said: “I have no rhythm. I was a rabbit in the headlights.

“I was, ‘Oh My God, what am I going to do. I’ve got to press up against this guy and I can feel his genitals against my leg’. I was so out of my depth.

“My first day I could feel his balls on my thigh and I thought, ‘I’m so scared’.”

The star noted that throughout the competition she began to feel more confident just before she was sent home.

Katie continued: “It was a laugh but just as I started to let go and learn something I was booted off.

“I would have loved to dance for a few more weeks.

“I was like a baby elephant.”

Katie has been married to Richard James Sutton since November 2015 and the couple have two children.

She has been revealed as the host of snack brand KIND’s new three-part podcast series, Kids Live KIND, where kids teach adults how we can all be nicer to each other.

The TV personality and philanthropist believes that as we get older, our hectic lives often make unkind choices easier.

Opening up on what she learnt from talking to the children, Katie told Express.co.uk: “What surprised me was their understanding of what foundations we need for life, and how they are rooted in how we treat other people.

“How we treat ourselves, it kind of all goes back to that and what the word kindness really meant.

“I think I probably left that series, went home and went, ‘Do you know what? We actually complicate things so much as adults’. “

Katie Piper has partnered with KIND Snacks to launch Kids Live KIND. A new three-part podcast series where Katie learns first-hand from kindness experts – kids – how adults can live, be, and act kinder in apost-pandemic world. Kids Live KIND is available to download on Spotify and all major platforms, from June 15.
