Hairy Biker Dave Myers admits ‘we were heading for an early grave’

The Hairy Bikers’ Dave Myers shares gratitude for his nurses

Hairy Biker Dave Myers has said he and Si King “were heading for an early grave” before they overhauled their lifestyle in 2012.

The duo burst onto our screens back in 2004 with The Hairy Bikers’ Cookbook which saw them travel across the world in search of local cuisines.

However, the BBC pair realised they needed to change what they were putting into their bodies after too much hearty food made them morbidly obese.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Dave, 66, admitted: “We were heading for an early grave and were morbidly obese.”

Before their Hairy Dieters TV series, which aired in 2012 and saw the two completely overhaul their eating habits, Si, 57, weighed 19st 6lb and Dave was 17st, 12lb.

Since then, Si is now just over 16st and Dave is just under 13st, which is a stark contrast.

“We lost three stone each in three months and turned our bodies around,” Dave told the publication.

Si revealed his father died of kidney failure when he was just eight years old, and as a result, he and his mother Stella grieved his loss through food.

Dave’s mum passed away when he was 23, after she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis when he was just seven years old.

Si said: “I’m always going to have to calorie count because I have a predisposition to being a fat g**.

“But the great things about comfort food are the twists and turns and flavours we have, like a ham salad with beautiful potatoes.”

The television personality said they’ve become better cooks and have stripped the calories but not reduced the flavour.

Dave also expressed that he is happy he can now eat like a “normal” person and is a healthy weight after years of trying not to gain weight.
