Carlee Russell’s boyfriend wants the hate against her to stop!
As Perezcious readers will no doubt know, the case of the 25-year-old has captured the nation’s attention over the past month. It all began when she claimed to have pulled over on the side of I-459 South in Hoover, Alabama, to help a toddler walking alongside the road. She reached out to the police about the kid and called a friend. But when authorities arrived at the scene, she and the small child were nowhere to be found. The only things that remained were her car, cellphone, and wig.
This launched a massive search for the nursing student. But two days later, Carlee suddenly returned to her family’s home, claiming she was abducted by a white man with “orange hair” in an 18-wheeler and an unseen woman. While being held captive, she allegedly was stripped down and photographed by her kidnappers. However, Carlee insisted she was not assaulted. She was then given some cheese crackers at some point before escaping and coming back home.
But there’s one problem with her story – police haven’t been able to confirm any of her allegations. Carlee also hasn’t “cooperated” with investigators, who’ve asked to conduct additional interviews. Furthermore, some jaw-dropping details about the case have come out, such as she searched online for information about Amber Alerts and the film Taken. Carlee also tweeted several times around the time of her alleged abduction, including just 15 minutes before she contacted police. She tweeted at the time:
“yeah i want a family now”
As cops struggle to find evidence of Carlee’s kidnapping claims, she has faced a lot of backlash on social media, as many people believe the whole thing was a hoax. In fact, she got fired from her job at the Woodhouse Spa in Birmingham due to the scrutiny. According to The New York Post, her former boss, Stuart Rome, shared that her co-workers have been upset because they tried to help find her and now think they were tricked.
More than that? The establishment has received a ton of negative comments on their social media accounts and reviews from people for employing Carlee. Rome told the outlet he’s “just trying to keep the doors open.” As a result, she got the sack from her job.
The hate directed at Carlee has gotten so bad that her boyfriend is now speaking out against it. Speaking with The New York Post on Saturday, Thomar Simmons — who previously insisted she was “fighting for her life” for 48 hours — begged everyone to “stop” harassing her online:
“The only thing I can say is, I want everyone to stop bullying her. I know what it seems like what she did. Just stop bullying on social media. Think about her mental health. She doesn’t deserve that. She doesn’t. Nobody deserves to be cyberbullied.”
Here’s the thing… No matter what you think or how angry you are about this case, that doesn’t mean you should go and harass someone. It’s not OK. Reactions? Let us know in the comments below.
