5 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Golden Globes Pianist Chloe Flower

On Jan. 10, Chloe Flower showcased her angelic piano skills between hilarious monologues and unexpected words of wisdom at the Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills. During the evening, several award recipients were seen shouting at Flower as piano music began to play when they went over the allotted time during their speeches. While the pianist, who has been a professional musician for nearly 13 years, glided her fingers across the keys all night long, she made it clear that she was not responsible for the cutoff music.

“I would never play piano over people’s speeches!!” she wrote on Twitter that night. “I’m only playing when you see me on camera!” Flower played the commercial intros and outros, the opening theme song, and the closing scene music for the Golden Globes.

One notable exchange occurred when “Everything Everywhere All at Once” star Michelle Yeoh took the stage to accept the award for best actress in a musical or comedy film. “Shut up, please. I can beat you up. And that’s serious,” Yeoh joked when the music started before she was finished with her speech.

Following the show, Flower’s fans were quick to come to her defense, pointing out that the pianist was not to blame for playing stars off the stage. In a tweet shared the next day, Flower explained that there were no hard feelings. “Still a forever fan #MichelleYeoh !!” she wrote. “(And she was much scarier in Crazy Rich Asians) #GoldenGlobes2023 #nevermeetyourheroes.”

On Jan. 11, Flower returned to Twitter to thank her fans for their support and share her new single, “Golden Hour,” inspired by her performance during the award show. “Thank you for all the love and support during the #goldenglobes last night!” she said. “I’m excited to share my song Golden Hour that I released in honor of my performance.”

While the award show was a memorable one for Flower, it wasn’t her first time taking the stage. In 2019, she made an appearance at the Grammys, where she played Liberace’s crystal piano alongside Cardi B during her performance of “Money.” In 2022, Flower played piano at the Miss USA evening-gown competition in Reno, NV. In November, she also joined Ne-Yo and Becky G on stage for the Wonderful World of Disney: Magical Holiday Celebration.
