‘I am an emotional person and hope to be stronger when I go inside because I have been told dil pe nahin lena.’
After participating in music reality shows like India’s Raw Star and The Remix alongside DJ Skip, Akasa Singh became a popular singer, known for songs like Naagin and Keech Meri Photo.
She takes a career leap by participating in the reality show Bigg Boss 15, and tells Rediff.com Senior Contributor Rajul Hedge, “I was too new when I was offered Bigg Boss earlier. At that point, I wanted people to know me for my music, not as a contestant on Bigg Boss.”
What made you take up Bigg Boss 15?
My parents are the reason I am doing this show.
After years of being approached for the show, my mom finally convinced me to do it, saying it would be a life experience.
She is obsessed with Bigg Boss.
When I was quarantined before the show, my mom really got tense, so she kept sending voice notes of encouragement.
Are you an extrovert?
I have a certain set of people and I love to be within that circle.
But I am happy to meet new people and make friends.
I have not lived without my phone, my family and friends, so it’s going to be really difficult.
I just want to go with the flow.
Basically, I want to go, have fun, be myself and give my 100 percent.
Your vulnerable side will come out during the show. How good are you at handling such things?
I am still learning, and I am open to learning inside also.
I still don’t know how to deal with a lot of things, so there is a lot of fear.
I am an emotional person and hope to be stronger when I go inside because I have been told dil pe nahin lena.
Are you patient?
I have less patience, but when mahayudh hota hai ghar mein within five minutes, you will see us sitting together and giggling.
I hope the same thing happens in the Bigg Boss.
Sometimes I am the peacemaker at home.
I am hot-headed, but it takes a while to get there and usually, I am angry when I am hurt, so it’s a terrible combination.
Are you ready for the jungle theme in Bigg Boss 15?
I am an adventurous person.
I love animals.
I have no problem with insects.
I used to climb trees during my childhood, so I am rough and tough.
I have grown up with boys.
Any contestants you have liked in previous seasons?
I don’t know if it’s a good thing but it’s been a while since I watched Bigg Boss.
My mother is a huge fan, so she watches it often.
I remember watching Gauhar Khan’s season. I really liked her.
I respect her because she is a strong woman.
I get impressed, and feel happy to meet people who are very much themselves. I immediately make friends with them because I like to be with them.
I really liked Shehnaz Gill too.
I am sure every Sardarni has liked her.
Is this the best phase of your musical career?
I was too new when I was offered Bigg Boss earlier.
To be honest, at that point, I wanted people to know me for my music, not as a contestant on Bigg Boss.
Hopefully, people will remember my music when I am inside the house.
I am trying to build myself as an artist and yes, win more hearts.
I have a little family of fans that support and love me. Maybe that will increase through this show.
Are you excited to meet Salman Khan?
I don’t know how I will react when I meet him.
He has been a crush for many (smiles).
He is so connected to the show and the contestants. He gives good advice during the Weekend Ka Vaar.
I don’t think there is a better host than him.
