When Kym Marsh struts off the cobbles of Weatherfield later this year she will walk straight into two new roles.
The actress, a Coronation Street favourite for 13 years, revealed she was leaving the ITV soap just days ago.
She said she wanted to explore new roles – and friends say she is already finalising a TV show and a theatre job.
A source said: “Kym has a really busy year ahead. She’s still got a while left on Corrie and then she’s already got two exciting projects lined up – in a TV show and in the theatre.”
Kym, 42, played Michelle Connor from 2006 and bosses have reassured fans there are no plans to kill her off.
Revealing her exit, the mum-of-three said: “When I was lucky enough to be offered four episodes on Coronation Street I could never have thought I’d be here 13 years later.
“It’s been an incredibly difficult decision but it feels like the right time for me to take a break from the show and explore some other roles. But this isn’t the last you’ve heard of Michelle. She’ll be back.”
According to reports, show boss Iain MacLeod was hoping to keep her on.
He said: “Kym has done a fantastic job as Michelle. We will be really sad to lose her but totally understand that she now fancies trying something else.”
Kym found fame in 2000 on ITV reality show Popstars, becoming a singer in band Hear’Say.
Pals say she has even spoken about returning to the music industry.
One source close to her said: “Kym still loves to sing and often performs at charity do’s. She’s even hinted at a return to music at some point.”
