Meghana Reddy, who topped the rhythmic gymnastics selection trials in New Delhi, is waiting for the Indian Olympic Association to clear the team that will take part in the Jakarta Asian Games this August.
In artistic gymnastics, Dipa Karmakar and Rakesh Patra topped the points table in men’s and women’s sections respectively.
“The selections were done and the list of gymnasts was sent to the IOA which will take a final call on whether rhythmic gymnasts will be there for the Asiad or not,” said the 19-year-old in a chat with
“I am pleased with my performances in the selections.
“The most satisfying part being that I maintained the gap between myself and the next best contender,” said the former National Games gold medallist.
“It important not only to maintain the lead but also to keep improving because the competition at the Asiad is going to be really tough,” she said.
“Obviously, with the World Championship scheduled within one month after the Asian Games, I can say the preparations are well and truly on for the two major events,” said Meghana reminding that she would be joining her personal coach Varvara Filiou soon.
“The mood is upbeat certainly but not looking for any break right now. I hope to keep improving with each day and win a medal in the Asian Games and the Worlds,” said the young gymnast.
“We are working for more perfection in executions and I am confident of a creditable performance.”
