Krunal tests positive for COVID-19; SL vs India 2nd T20I postponed

The second T20 International between Sri Lanka and India in Colombo on Tuesday was postponed after all-rounder Krunal Pandya tested positive for COVID-19.

“Following the Rapid Antigen Tests conducted ahead of the match on Tuesday morning, Team India all-rounder Krunal Pandya was found to be positive. The Medical Teams have identified eight members as close contacts,” BCCI said in a media release on Tuesday.

“The second T20I between Sri Lanka and India originally scheduled to be played on July 27 has been pushed forward by a day and will now take place on Wednesday, July 28.”

“The entire contingent is undergoing RT-PCR tests today to ascertain any further outbreak in the squad,” BCCI added.

The positive tests could also delay Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav’s departure to England as replacements in the Indian Test squad. They were set to tour to UK at the end of the three-match T20I series, after Washington Sundar, batsman Shubman Gill and pacer Avesh Khan were ruled out of the upcoming-five Test series against England.
