All England 2021 Semifinal, PV Sindhu vs Pornpawee Chochuwong Highlights: PV Sindhu lost to Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong in the All England semifinal on Saturday. She lost the first game 17-21 despite fighting back towards the end. In the second game, she was never in touch with the Thai as she lost the match 12-21, 9-21.
Pornpawee Chochuwong was always supposed to be a slippery semifinal opponent. She’s rarely troubled Sindhu in the past, except right after the Indian’s World title in 2019 at China Open. However, the young Thai has beaten Carolina Marin in her backyard in Spain for her first title in 2020. And she got stuck into Tai Tzu Ying at the World Tour Finals this January, blitzing the Taipese.

All over. Sindhu was never in touch with the Thai in the second game. And she loses 17-21, 9-21 to Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong in 45 minutes in the semifinal.
It’s all falling apart for Sindhu. The Indian makes a string of errors after play restarts after the interval. Seems to be looking for points where there are none, with the Thai having blocked out all scoring avenues. Chochuwong leads 15-6.
Sindhu’s attempts at fighting back are being met with a brick wall on the other side of the net. Chochuwong is now commanding the court, racing to a sizeable lead in the second game. She leads 10-4.
It is Chochuwong who takes an early lead in the second game too. A few smashes which Sindhu does not have a reply to make it 4-1 to her. She leads 21-17, 4-1 now.
Despite a fighting comeback from Sindhu, it is the Thai who seals the first game with a few back-to-back points. Sindhu is a game down in the semifinal. She came back from a game down to win her quarter, can she do a repeat today too?
Just as Sindhu looks to be clawing back, the Thai opens up a gap in the points again with two consecutive smashes. But Sindhu is not giving up. A heroic retrieve helps to make it 16-17.
Chochuwong goes into the break with a sizeable lead. Sindhu looks to up her intensity after the restart. Gets a few consecutive points to close the lead. Still she trails by 11-15.
After an equal start in the first game, Sindhu falls behind. The first gap in the points open up as Chochuwong goes 3 points up at 9-6.
