Pandemic or no pandemic, Bollywood never fails to entertain moviegoers who have been locked inside their houses over the past six months. When theatres were shut and the audience was deprived of their weekly dose of entertainment, several filmmakers and producers decided to release their projects online. Streaming giants like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hotstar and others became the best alternatives in the current pandemic situation. Viewership numbers also witnessed an upward trend on OTT platforms. And since this year’s Diwali is OTT wali, an explosion of new content is being readied to drop on digital platforms to mark the festival of lights and keep you hooked.
Akshay Kumar’s horror comedy, Laxmii, is a remake of the Tamil blockbuster Muni 2: Kanchana, but has been met with plenty of negativity after its release. Anurag Basu’s multistarrer Ludo, which features Abhishek Bachchan, Rajkummar Rao, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra, is a dark comedy drama about several people whose lives collide. One can surely add Ludo to their binge list. Chhalaang is pitched as a hilarious yet inspirational journey of a PT master named Montu (played by Rajkummar Rao) in a semi government-funded school in North India. The Amazon Original movie, which also stars Nushrratt Bharuccha as a computer teacher, is to look out for. It will release on November 13.
The new season of the web series Aashram: Chapter 2 – The Dark Side promises new shocks and dark twists pertaining to the protagonist Kashipur Waale Baba Nirala, played by Bobby Deol. For Tamil audience, Mookuthi Amman, a devotional drama which stars Nayanthara and RJ Balaji, can prove to be a game-changer. The film will release on Disney+ Hotstar on November 14. Another Tamil flick, Soorarai Pottru, starring Tamil superstar Suriya, takes inspiration from a true story. It is a fictionalised account of the life of retired Army Captain GR Gopinath, who founded the low cost airline, Air Deccan. The film also stars Mohan Babu, Paresh Rawal and Aparna Balamurali and has premiered on Amazon Prime Video on November 12.
