After a gap of 11 months, schools in West Bengal reopened on Friday for classes 9 to 12 with strict adherence to Covid-19 protocols.
In the wake of covid 19 outbreak, schools were shut across the state in March last year.
The state government has directed school authorities to ensure strict compliance with Covid-19 guidelines to prevent a surge in fresh cases.
State Education Minister Partha Chatterjee said, “Students of classes 9-12 will study in schools from today. The government has requested school authorities to strictly follow the Covid-19 guidelines. I greet all students and teachers on the occasion. We all have to be careful.”
Some Kolkata schools such as Ram Mohan Mission reopened for all four classes while others such as Delhi Public School, Haryana Vidya Mandir and Hindu School began with two classes. The state government has left it to schools to hold physical classes.
Meanwhile, at DPS Ruby Park, a section of parents staged a protest demanding continuation of online examination.
