Swami Agnivesh beaten up by BJYM workers in Jharkhand

Social activist Swami Agnivesh on Tuesday was beaten up allegedly by the activists of Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of Bhartiya Janata Party in Jharkhand. The attackers also tore his clothes.

Swami Agnivesh was on his way to Litipada in Pakur district of Jharkhand to participate in an event but as soon as he came out of the hotel the right-wing activists surrounded him and allegedly beat him up.

Since morning the BJYM activists were said to be camping outside the hotel where Swami Agnivesh was staying. They also raised “Jai Sri Ram” slogans.

The reight-wing activists were upset with Swami Agnivesh’s visit to the State, and accused him of being hand-in-gloves with Christian missionaries to instigate tribals in Jharkhand.

“I’m alive today by God’s grace… it was a murderous attack on me…don’t know the reason why they thrashed me”, Swami Agnivesh told journalists.

“It seems to be a sponsored attack, a conspiracy…I was not provided any security”, he also added. Swami Agnivesh was later taken to a local hospital for medical attention.

Meanwhile, the local police have detained 20 men in connection with the attack on Swami Agnivesh. Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghuvar Das has ordered a probe by State Home Secretary into the incident.
