‘Dangal‘ and ‘Chichchore’ fame Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana has been making the headlines as much for its content and budget as it is for its casting. There was a strong buzz in the film industry that Mahesh Babu and Hrithik Roshan would play the leads – Ram and Ravana, respectively. Now the reports are coming that Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor has been approached to play Lord Ram.
But still the makers of Ramayana are considering Mahesh Babu to play the lead role. Apparently, Mahesh and Bollywood hero Ranbir Kapoor are in contention to play lord Rama’s role. News is that the makers met with both the actors and narrated the script but nothing is yet finalized. They are thinking that a hero with a good image in both North and South would be more bankable for their project Ramayana which is made on a budget of over 500 crores.
The sources say that the historic drama will be made for a pan-India audience now, keeping in mind the audiences as well as the distributors. That’s why Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu was approached for this historic role, for that pan-India audience connection.
It is also being heard that Mahesh Babu had turned it down in favour of an ambitious SS Rajamouli film set in the African jungles.
