PUZZLE 19

1. A rectangular room has a roof which is 10 metres wide, 13 metres long and 5 metres high. It is to be painted inside and outside including the ceiling but not on the floor or roof. How much paint is required to do so?

1. Answer:590

Solution:The walls are 13 x 5 = 65 and 10 x 5 = 50 units in area. The ceiling has an area 10 x 13 = 130 units. Hence the required amount of paint = [(65 + 50) x 2 x 2] + 130 = 590 square units.
