Thirteen special teams from the city police carried out search operations and arrested 30 persons with criminal background here recently.
City Police Commissioner K. Shankar said that to prevent crime activities and to ensure that people live without fear, various steps were taken by the police. A list of rowdy elements and persons with criminal backgrounds was prepared and they were continuously monitored. Also, action was taken against them to curb their activities, he added. As part of it, 13 teams led by police inspectors carried out intense search operations on the nights of January 30 and January 31 at various places in the city. The door-to-door search operation led to the arrest of 30 rowdy elements. Deputy Commissioners of Police P. Thangadurai (Law and Order) and C. Shyamala Devi (Crime and Traffic) visited the house of the criminals and advised their family members to be part of the society and not to involve in crime activities. Warnings were also issued to them that strict action would be taken if they involved anymmore in unlawful activities. The teams also held discussions with the public on the law and order situation in their areas.
Mr. Shankar said that 15 murder cases, nine attempt to murder cases and seven abduction cases were registered against the arrested in various police stations.
He warned off action against the criminals and other anti-social elements in the city.
