Samsung India aims to double annual mobile production capacity by 2020
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Monday inaugurated an expanded Samsung mobile manufacturing plant in Noida, claimed to be the largest in the world.
Samsung India says it would double its annual mobile production capacity to 120 million units from 68 million now by 2020.
It aims to make India an export hub for mobile phones as part of its ‘Make for the World’ initiative. Thirty per cent of the mobiles made in Noida are to be exported.
Last June, Samsung announced an investment of Rs 4,915 crore to add new capacity at the Noida plant.
All Samsung mobile phones, including the flagship Galaxy S9, S9+ and Galaxy Note8, are made at the Noida plant.
