** X-rays were discovered by accident when German scientist Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen was experimenting with vacuum tubes in 1895.
** Wilhelm Roentgen was also the the very first to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics. He received the award in 1901.
** Many objects in space emit X-rays, including black holes, neutron stars, the Sun, some comets, and binary star systems.
** However, the Earth’s atmosphere is thick enough to prevent most of the X-rays from outer space from entering the Earth’s surface.
