A 45-year-old woman farmer, Lakshmi Devi, on Tuesday created a flutter by threatening to end life in the office of the APTransco Assistant Engineer, in Vedurukuppam mandal headquarters, alleging that the officials had erected a power transformer on her agricultural land without taking her consent.
The woman, who holds a landholding on the outskirts of Vedurukuppam, entered the thinly attended office around 10 a.m.
After three officials went out to have tea, she bolted the entrance door of the building from inside and started shouting for justice.
The confused officials and some villagers rushed to the building and found the woman holding a kerosene bottle. Lakshmi Devi threatened the officials that she would set her ablaze if they made any bid to open the doors.
Till 5.30 p.m., she kept herself locked in the office, accusing the AE concerned of forcibly erecting a power transformer on her land.
sShe claimed that the officials did not remove the same, despite several appeals by her. Upon information, the local Sub-Inspector, along with a police team, reached the office in the evening and spoke with the woman through the grilled windows.
She came out of the office after the SI promised her justice.
