‘Visible policing’ launched to reduce road accidents

As part of the action plan to bring down the road mishaps to zero level in the Chittoor municipal corporation limits, the Chittoor traffic police on Saturday launched the ‘visible policing’ with all the personnel from the traffic wing seen on duty on the roads, with focus on crossroads and black spots vulnerable to road mishaps.

Deputy SP (Chittoor-Traffic) K. Kesappa said that as per the directions of SP S.V. Rajasekhar Babu, the traffic personnel were given an orientation on the measures to be adopted to prevent road mishaps.

The DSP said that the traffic personnel in uniform would be present at all the traffic islands and bypass junctions under the corporation limits. “All those who enter the corporation limits and leave the outskirts would be made to wear helmets, and challans would be slapped towards penalties for violating the norm. Also, the rule of putting seat belts would be implemented with all seriousness,” he said.

Cent per cent success was registered in eliminating the factors of overloading, pilot driving among autorikshaws in Chittoor corporation limits. “A special drive is under way to tackle driving by minors and drunk driving,” Mr. Kesappa said.
