The Puducherry police has given a gunman to former MLA and general secretary of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) D. Ravikumar following a threat to his life from right wing groups. In August, VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan wrote to Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy seeking security for Mr. Ravikumar.
Mr. Thirumavalavan said the Intelligence Wing of the Tamil Nadu Police informed him about a threat to the life of Mr. Ravikumar, who was an MLA in Tamil Nadu from 2006-2011.
The threat to life was revealed during the interrogation of the accused arrested in the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh in Karnataka. Following the request, the Puducherry police allotted a gunman to guard him round the clock.
