‘Use metro stations for road crossing’

Municipal Administration & Urban Development Secretary Arvind Kumar on Wednesday once again urged the citizens to make use of the metro stations along the metro rail routes for crossing over.

Each metro station is about one kilometre apart and they are all equipped with lifts, escalators and stairs and can be used free of cost for crossing the roads, he said.

The Principle Secretary also stated that wherever gas godowns are located within the residential areas, these will be relocated after giving notices to the agencies. The official, who was on foot inspecting the ongoing civic work in Srinagar Colony and S.R. Nagar pointed out that the gas godowns in densely-populated areas pose a danger to the people living in the neighbourhood, hence the necessity for shifting.

He also directed municipal officials to take up with the Excise Department to shift a liquor shop from the main road so that it does not cause any hindrance to the traffic movement. Traffic diversions should also be taken up in the colony to deal with increasing vehicular movement and debris clearance on the footpaths should be taken up.

Mr. Kumar observed in certain places the Metro Rail medians could be opened for pedestrian crossings and junction improvements should be taken up at Punjagutta, Srinagar Colony, Ameerpet, S.R. Nagar, Erragadda, Kukatpally – Y- Junction, KPHB with the architect chosen for the project advised to come out with varied designs.
