India’s economic growth will be at risk if Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not re-elected in next year’s election, said John Chambers, former CEO of CISCO.
Mr. Chambers is chairman of the U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) and an influential voice in U.S. politics and business.
Mr. Chambers said Mr. Modi was a “leader of the century,” and India’s progress was on the right track under him. Praising Mr. Modi’s vision for the country, Mr. Chambers, a strong supporter of U.S.-India ties pitched for another term for the Indian Prime Minister.
“I think it would be a major risk not to give him a chance to finish that vision,” Mr. Chambers told a group of Indian reporters on the sidelines of the USISPF annual leadership summit. He has met Mr. Modi several times in the last four years.
“To do that [implement his vision] takes at least a decade. I think your Prime Minister Modi has the capability of doing it. I think he has the country headed in the right way,” he said.
