Telangana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party charged that the TRS government has totally failed to improve civic infrastructure to provide better amenities to the people of the twin cities in the last four-and-a-half years despite the State earning most of its revenue from the capital.
Stating that the recently released action taken report and development plan released by the Department of Municipal Administration and Urban Development was nothing but “hype and attractive graphics”, the party leaders claimed on Friday that the ground reality was something else.
“Roads are filled with potholes, storm water drains have not been improved, sewerage is overflowing, polluted drinking water is supplied and underground cabling is not complete, and many more. What happened to grand plans announced to make it a global city? How much money was allocated? Why this step-motherly treatment to the capital? GHMC is plagued with problems and Water Board cites funds crunch,” said party floor leader in Assembly G. Kishan Reddy.
Flanked by fellow city legislators — Ch. Ramachandra Reddy, N.V.S.S. Prabhakar and MLC M. Ramachandra Rao — he wanted to know why the government was silent on taking metro rail project into the old city and blamed it for 2.5 years delay plus related cost escalation. “Doesn’t the Old city deserve metro rail? Will the line be built till Falaknuma?” he wondered. “Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and Municipal Minister K.T. Rama Rao held two separate meetings in 2015 and 2016, respectively, with city legislators and gave assurances on several projects but nothing has moved like works on new sewerage lines, drinking water and white top roads, among others. Meetings are held only with Majlis MLAs these days exposing the Government’s duplicity,” he said.
