Tribal children get a feel of World Cup

The little children of the Alternative School at Pattakkarimbu Tribal Colony near Nilambur too had a feel of the World Cup on Sunday. The Students Federation of India (SFI) unit of Vaidyaratnam PS Varier Ayurveda College, Kottakkal, gave them sports kits containing a football, Argentina-Brazil jerseys, and badminton rackets and shuttlecocks.

The SFI unit had adopted the tribal school a month ago as it was on the verge of closure. The adoption programme, titled Mashithandu, is trying to revive the school by instilling enthusiasm and fresh hopes among the Adivasi children.

Wearing Argentina-Brazil jerseys, the students shyly posed for a photograph before kicking off the ball. They played the ball in their own style displaying vigour and camaraderie. A team of students and teachers reached the tribal colony on Sunday, and conducted a free medical camp for the families.

Faculty members D.S. Vinod, P.K. Naseema, postgraduate student C. Akhil, and ward member K. Meenakshi attended.
