Three persons, including a woman, were killed in separate road accidents in the district since Sunday afternoon.
Police said Selvam (29) of Aayikudi near Tenkasi and his relatives had gone to Sorimuthu Ayyanar Temple in the Kalakkad – Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve in Papanasam in a van to offer special prayers. When they were returning home after dusk, van driver Sankar (31) of Kadambankulam lost control and the van dashed against a roadside rock close to Agasthiyar Falls and overturned.
While 20 of the 30 pilgrims escaped with minor injuries, others, who had sustained grievous bleeding injuries were rushed to the Ambasamudram Government Hospital and Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital. While Kuppusamy (63) died at Ambasamudram GH, his relative Sorimuthu (70) died at TVMCH in the small hours of Monday. Vickramasingapuram police have registered a case.
In another mishap, a woman was killed and five others were injured when a multi utility vehicle in which they were travelling hit a roadside palmyrah tree near Chokkampatti.
Police said Rajasekar (53) of Thirupasethi in Sivaganga district had come to Courtallam with his family members. When they were returning home, Rajasekar’s son Manikandan (22), who was driving the MUV, hit the tree at Chokkampatti. All six persons were injured.
Though the victims were taken to the Tenkasi Government Hospital, Rajasekar’s daughter Maha Shree (22) died.
Chokkampatti police have registered case against Manikandan.
