Three women were killed and 36 suffered injuries when the van in which they were travelling fell on its side after one of its front tyres burst near Mettupatti on Dharapuram-Ottanchatram National Highway on Monday morning.
The accident took place when the hosiery factory workers from Puliampatti, Kodangipatti and few other villages in Dindigul were heading to their workplace. The deceased were identified as Pappathy (50), Revathy (37) and Parvathy (38). Out of the 36 injured, two persons were admitted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital and their condition was said to be critical. Six persons were rushed to Palani Government Hospital and the rest were admitted to various hospitals, sources said. Dharapuram police have registered a case and are investigating.
