Taking students closer to nature

The district administration has decided to make students understand how nature works and what measures are being taken by the Forest Department to preserve biodiversity in forests.

As a first step, a new initiative called ‘Vana Vignana Yatra’ would be introduced wherein all government school students studying in class X would be taken on study tours to various places in the district.

District Collector D. Amoy Kumar said such an initiative would bring students closer to nature and makes them understand the importance of preserving the forests.

District Forest Officer T. Ravi Kiran said the students would be given the tour of watch towers ans viewpoints, and artificial ponds inside the forest that are built to provide drinking water to animals in summer.

Eturnagaram FDO Pradeep Shetty said the students would be provided all facilities during the tour that includes midday meals and T-shirts as a gift to remember the tour. He said a snake show by Friends of Snakes Society, Hyderabad, would also be held to make students learn about poisonous and non-poisonous snakes and discuss several myths related to them.

District Eco-Tourism Officer K. Suman said all the students taking part in the tour would also learn about open defecation, hand washing, sanitation etc under the Swachh Bharath mission. A short film on plastic would also be screened for them.
