Bharatiya Janata Party State president Kanna Lakshminarayana on Monday urged Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu to immediately provide consent letter to the Centre to take up the public sector port project at Ramayapatnam.
“It is unfortunate that the State government is silent even after a team of experts has made it clear that the port selected for the purpose is found not technically feasible,” he said while addressing a party workers’ meeting here.
He wondered why the Chief Minister was withholding consent for taking up the port project in Prakasam district.
The BJP, if voted to power in the State, would take up the port project in Ramayapatnam and include Prakasam district in the list of seven backward districts for special financial assistance under the A.P. State Reorganisation Act, he said amid loud cheers from party workers.
Alleging that corruption was rampant from top to bottom under the TDP rule, he sought a mandate in 2019 for the BJP to provide corruption-free governance in the State. He said the Narendra Modi government had provided corruption-free governance and taken up welfare and development initiatives on a scale not done by any other government before. He challenged the TDP to subject itself to a high-level probe into its omissions and commissions during its four-and-a-half-year rule.
Renaming of schemes
The Janmabhoomi committees at the grassroots level were fleecing the poor to sanction houses, pension etc., he charged. He took objection to renaming of the Central schemes and the Chief Minister claiming credit for houses sanctioned by the Centre and cars distributed to SC beneficiaries under the National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation (NSCFDC).
“We will function as a responsible opposition party highlighting the people’s problems,” he said.
The Centre had provided assistance to the State to a level not extended to any other State, he said. Even the States ruled by the Congress and Left parties, with which it had ideological differences, did not complain about any ‘step-motherly treatment’ to them, he added.
Former Union Minister and party women’s wing in charge D.Purandeswari said the ruling TDP had betrayed all sections of people after promising a blanket loan waiver at the time of elections. “How long the youth should wait for unemployment allowance?” she asked.
Stating that the BJP could not be held responsible for economic offences that had taken place during the erstwhile UPA regime, she said it was because of the amendment to the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code the process of recovering ill-gotten wealth of economic offenders could be initiated.
