SFC seeks info on income, expenditure of local bodies

State Finance Commission Chairman G. Rajesham Goud directed Panchayat Raj officials to take measures to enable gram panchayats utilise their own resources to become financially self-reliant.

Mr. Goud chaired a meeting with the officials of Panchayat Raj Commissionerate and Chief Executive Officers of all the Zilla Parishads in the State at the Office of State Finance Commission in Rajendranagar here last week.

He said the information sought by the Finance Commission regarding the income and expenditure of the rural local bodies should be furnished in a systematic manner. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had announced that Rs. 1,500 crore would be released to the rural local bodies during this financial year 2018-19.

He suggested that local bodies should explore the possibility of constructing shopping complexes to earn revenue and instructed the Chief Executive Officers of Zilla Parishads to give a report on the available resources in the district.

He said there are several Non-Resident Indians and senior officials who are keen to donate for the development of their native places and to help the poor, and district-level officers should hold consultations with such persons and formulate plans for the development of local bodies with all amenities.

Member Secretary Suresh Chanda reviewed the income and expenditure of all the mandal and Zilla Parishads from 2013-14 to 2017-18 with the respective CEOs of ZPs.

Mr. Chennaiah, Member, Finance Commission said the rural local bodies should furnish the financial details of mandal and zilla parishads in the proper format and in time. The details should be given to the concerned data entry operators, cashiers and mandal parishad development officers for uploading into the online system, he said.
