Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami announced in the Assembly on Monday that a sum of Rs. 150 crore would be earmarked for preventing pollution of Noyyal river within Tirupur Corporation limits.
statement in the House, Mr. Palaniswami said construction of walls along the banks of the river within the Corporation limits, setting up of baby canals, desilting and other works would be taken up with the fund.
Originating from the Western Ghats as multiple small rivers, the Noyyal passes through Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode and Karur districts and joins the Cauvery near Noyyal village in Karur district. The river was polluted primarily due to effluents discharged by industrial units and residential houses in Tirupur Corporation, he said.
The Chief Minister said a sum of Rs. 25.23 crore would be earmarked for road safety projects.
