The Madras High Court on Tuesday directed the Dharmapuri police to consider favourably a request made by Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader and Member of Parliament Anbumani Ramadoss to conduct a public hearing for ascertaining the views of farmers whose lands could be acquired for the Chennai-Salem expressway.
Justice P.N. Prakash passed the order while disposing of a writ petition filed by PMK’s Dharmapuri district secretary S.P. Venkateswaran, accusing the police of not granting permission to the MP for visiting the farmers in Harur Taluk. He had challenged an order refusing permission for the public hearing between July 1 and 5.
After hearing arguments advanced by senior counsel N.L. Rajah and K. Balu, the judge directed the petitioner to submit a fresh representation to the police with new dates and timings for the public hearing.
