Sixty bootleggers were arrested and over 16,000 litres of illicit liquor was seized within 48 hours during raids, said Gautam Budh Nagar police on Saturday.
They said that operation ‘Yellow Water’ — crackdown on bootleggers and illegal trade of liquor in Gautam Buddh Nagar — was launched on Monday night. Gautam Buddh Nagar SSP Ajay Pal Sharma said 33 persons were arrested and over 16,000 litres of liquor was seized under city police, including Noida. Also, 27 persons were arrested from the rural region, where 888 litres of liquor was seized, he added.
A total of 1,354 litres of English-made and 15,556 litres of countrymade liquor — totalling to 16,920 litres — was seized during the operations, the police said. The data for operation ‘Yellow Water’ states that the biggest haul was made by the Sector 24 police station team which seized 15,000 litres of illegal liquor, including 48 litres English-made alcohol, and arrested six persons. In the rural region, the Dadri police station team arrested nine persons and seized 520 litres of illegal liquor, the data added.
