Agriculture Minister V.S. Sunil Kumar has stressed the need for pesticide-free agriculture practices in the district.
Speaking at a farm seminar at the Cardamom Research Station of the Kerala Agriculture University at Pampadumpara on Thursday, he said farmers should be made aware of the dangers posed by the indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides and they should be guided on scientific plant protection protocols.
He said the government was committed to protecting the interest of cardamom farmers and they should be discouraged from the indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides.
He also released a leaflet on ‘Good Agricultural Practices in Pest and Disease Management of Cardamom’.
P. Indira Devi, Director of Research, KAU, also spoke at the function.
Farmers should be guided on scientific plant protection protocols.
