On a day a few more Popular Front of India activists were detained in connection with the Abhimanyu murder case, the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has steered clear of any role in the crime, reiterating that none of its cadres has been arrested so far.
Addressing a news conference here on Thursday, P. Abdul Majeed Faisi, State president, SDPI, claimed that the murder at Maharaja’s College in Kochi was “accidental” and that it did not seem to have been planned. He sought to make a difference between “party members” and “party cadres”. Mr. Faizi claimed, citing the party bylaw, that the leadership was not accountable to the activities of the members, who were just sympathisers.
However, party cadres were directly involved in party work and held positions in the hierarchy.
