The government is doing all it can to provide livelihood to handloom sector workers by encouraging people to buy their products and providing marketing avenues to them, said Vijayawada Central MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao on Friday.
Speaking after inaugurating Lepakshi Craft Bazaar at PWD Grounds, he said to popularise the works of these artisans, the government had made it a practice to gift them as souvenirs to foreign delegates visiting the country, in addition to facilitating country-wide exhibition and sale of their products. Efforts were also on to train the artisans in integrating contemporary designs in their products in keeping with the changing tastes of the customers.
Informing that the exhibition would continue till December 9, he urged people to encourage them by extending their patronage to their products. Andhra Pradesh Handicrafts Development Corporation Chairman Pali Prasad said traditional artistic products were being sold through 12 Lepakshi showrooms across the State besides regular exhibitions. Visitors could find the world famous Kondapalli toys, Etikoppaka toys, Kalamkari prints and paintings among other things under one roof.
A wide range of products are available at over 200 stalls at the exhibition, which will remain open to public from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on all days.
