Missing 11-year-old Delhi boy found dead in field, injuries indicate murder

The body of an 11-year-old boy – who had gone missing while playing near his home in outer Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy on Monday evening — was found dead in an agricultural field in the neighbourhood on Wednesday morning, police said.

Rajneesh Gupta, deputy commissioner of police (Rohini), said the injuries on the boy’s head indicated that he was murdered. Ruling out sexual assault, the DCP said a murder case in the matter has been registered at Shahbad Dairy police station.

The boy, identified by his first name Vikas, was a student of class 6 at a government school in Shahbad Dairy and lived in the neighbourhood with his parents, who work as daily wagers.

A week ago, Vikas and his parents had been to their village in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj. The boy had returned with some relatives three days ago while his parents stayed back for a few more days. Since his return, he had been staying with his relatives in the same neighbourhood.

“The boy was playing near his home when he went missing on Monday evening. His relatives searched in the neighbourhood before informing his parents. His parents reached Delhi on Tuesday, following which they approached the police. A missing person complaint had been registered and we had started a search,” said the DCP.

The search came to an end around 10 am on Wednesday when a passerby spotted the boy’s body in an agricultural field around 500 metres from his home.

The DCP said efforts are being made to nab the culprit and ascertain the reason behind the murder. However, no breakthrough was made in the case until Wednesday night.
