Man gets 10 years RI

The Additional District and Sessions Court in Bidar awarded 10 years rigourous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 10,000 fine on a man on Monday for causing the death of a man by attacking him.

As per details provided by Public Prosecutor Bhimashankar Ambalagi who argued for the State, Prashanth, a 27-year-old resident of Bhatambra village, picked up a quarrel with the mother of Basavaraj, a 35-year old resident of the same village, on May 22, 2016, over a petty issue and verbally abused her. When Basavaraj intervened and made an attempt to stop the accused and save his mother, the former took a heavy wooden stick and hit the latter on his head critically injuring him. Though the injured Basavaraj was first rushed to a hospital in Bhalki and then to the government hospital in Bidar, he was declared brought dead.

Later, a case was registered against Prashanth under Sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 304(2) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of Indian Penal Code. The police investigated the case and filed a charge-sheet.

Hearing the case, M. Chandrashekhar Reddy, the judge, found Prashanth guilty and awarded him one year simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 1,000 under Section 323 of IPC and 10 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 10,000 under Section 304(2) of IPC.
